How the Lifetimely Pixel works
The Lifetimely Pixel is used to collect and report activity on your store but also the referring traffic. In other words, it allows us to analyze how customers are reaching your store, which campaigns might be sending them there and how they behave until they make a purchase.
The Pixel is based on Shopify's native technology, which like any other, comes with advantages but also some limitations. You can read about it in detail on Shopify's own documentation, but here's a summary on our approach with it:
- Using a native Shopify pixel allows us to collect data without ever compromising your store's performance, since Shopify controls how it's collected and doesn't let it impact the storefront
- Shopify also offers standardization across events, allowing for more accurate representation of behavior with events like product added to cart, checkout completed and others - learn more about Customer events
- No code or any change to your theme needed, since this information is streamed by Shopify after installing Lifetimely (unfortunately this means no historical data)
- Relying solely on Shopify also means we're not using other attribution methods to traffic Shopify may not pick up or interpret, which may also impact storefronts with more complex setups like headless commerce
- We also don't use any type of machine learning or algorithm to fill in the gaps like some of the ad platforms do, so it's possible (and convenient ;) the Pixel under reports what the platforms are attributing to themselves
